NGL Biathlon 2027 has a Tutorial section: six short lessons, each about one technique — skiing, the tuck on descents, boost, superboost, slipstream and shooting. Players ask us where a beginner should start, whether the order matters, why a lesson did not count and how a lesson differs from training. Here is how it works

Where to find it

The tutorial has its own item in the main menu, Tutorial, right below Settings. The first time you start the game it asks whether you would like to go through the tutorial. It asks only once: say no and it will not ask again, and the section stays in the menu

Six lessons

The lessons are laid out as tiles, and all of them are open from the start. The order on screen is the recommended one, but you can take them in any order and come back to a lesson whenever you like. A completed tile is marked Passed

  • Skiing stride — ski forward and reach the marker after the turn. The side keys steer
  • Tuck on the descent — crouch when the track goes downhill, hold the tuck for the whole descent and stand up when the speed stops building. Stand up too early and you lose that speed, too late and the athlete comes to a stop: in the tuck he does not push
  • Boost — take a climb on boost. The boost reserve is not endless: release the key and it fills up again
  • Superboost — build the rhythm with quick presses and ride up the climb on superboost. Its reserve does not recover, so do not spend it all at once
  • Slipstream — catch the rival and stay right behind him. There the athlete saves energy but uses a separate reserve
  • Shooting — fire five prone shots at the targets. Reloading is manual, as in real biathlon: without it there is no next shot

A lesson shows the technique, not all of its mechanics. How skiing, boost and superboost work in a race is covered in Skiing, boost and superboost, shooting and pulse in Shooting and pulse

How a lesson goes

Before the start you get the instructions: what the technique is for, what to do and which key to use. The track waits until you press Start. The tuck lesson splits its task into three steps, the other lessons have a single line

A lesson does not begin at the stadium but right before the place it needs: a turn, a descent or a climb. In the skiing, tuck, boost and superboost lessons the goal is a marker on the track, also shown on the minimap. The lesson counts once you reach it, having done the technique on the way. In shooting the goal is five shots, in slipstream it is the rival himself: catch him and stay behind

While you ski, a short prompt on screen names one action: Descent ahead, Get into a tuck, Stand up when the speed stops building. The key is shown next to it on its own line — the one you actually use rather than the default, and for the device you play with: keyboard or gamepad. Rebinding keys is covered in Controls and gamepad

Esc pauses the lesson, and the pause screen shows where you are: Tutorial · Tuck on the descent

If it does not work out

When a lesson is not passed, a window explains why in plain words: the descent is behind you and you never got into a tuck, the rival got away, the tank ran out and the superboost never got going. There are two buttons. Retry fades the screen, counts down 3-2-1 and starts the lesson again from the same place. Back to tutorial returns you to the tiles. Esc does the same as the second button

When a lesson is passed, the Lesson passed window offers Try it again or Back to tutorial. The Passed mark is set the moment the lesson counts, so leaving with Esc does not lose it

Stars for the tuck

Only the tuck lesson has stars, because there is something to measure: the moment you stand up. Three stars mean right on time. Two mean a bit early or a bit late. One means far too early, while the descent was still building speed. Stand up too late and lose your speed, and the lesson is not passed. The other lessons do not count stars: the technique is either done or not

Who you ski as and where

  • Athlete — the strongest man of the national team that matches the game language, for English that is the USA. In a lesson all his attributes are set to 85: the lesson teaches a technique, not the choice of an athlete
  • Your save is not touched: not the roster, not the career, not the athlete's attributes
  • Difficulty in a lesson is always medium, even if you have advanced difficulty on with your own settings. In normal races your settings work as before
  • Weather is the same for every lesson, a clear cold day: the lesson teaches a technique, and a snowstorm or dusk only hide what is happening
  • Track — Annecy, and Ruhpolding for the tuck: only there does a flat run-out follow the descent, where you can see whether you stood up in time
  • A rival on the track appears only in the slipstream lesson — you need someone to tuck in behind

Tips in your first races

Besides the section, the race itself prompts the same techniques. In your first races tips pop up one at a time above the athlete's head: skiing, tuck, boost, superboost, slipstream, shooting. Each one comes when the situation fits — a climb, a descent, the range — and goes away once you have done what it says. A completed tip does not come back. The broadcast mode has no tips: the race runs by itself there

Lessons and training

A lesson teaches a technique, training lets you polish it: shoot series after series at the pulse you want or ski a race without the range. That is covered in Training

The Passed marks belong to the whole game, not to a save: a new career or another save does not reset them
