The main menu of NGL Biathlon 2027 has a Training section with two kinds of training: shooting training and skiing training. Your athlete does not level up there, you are the one training: the range, the track, the pace. Players ask us whether they can shoot without end, which pulse to start from and whether there is a race without the range. The answers are below

Shooting training

First you pick an athlete, then a track. You shoot at its range and set the weather yourself: temperature, time of day and precipitation. Fog blurs the targets in the sight, so shooting in fog is worth practising too. Then come the shooting settings

  • Initial pulse goes from the lowest value up to the maximum of the chosen athlete. The slider marks this athlete's danger zones in red, the shaking zone and the very high zone, and the number and the handle turn red when they sit in one of them. These are the same zones the rifle uses to work out the sway in a race. How they work is in Shooting and pulse
  • Shooting type is prone or standing
  • Mode is Endless or Standard
  • Rivals are off by default. Switch them on and a button to pick them appears: the rivals take the next lanes and shoot alongside you

The athlete is already on the mat in the shooting position, there is no skiing to the range. Before every new series the targets come back up, the magazine is loaded (you still chamber the round yourself, as in a race) and the pulse returns to the initial value. That way every series can start from the pulse you want to learn to shoot with

Endless and Standard mode

Endless is the default. One series follows another on the same spot until you leave, and misses cost nothing. The Steel nerves skill does not switch on here, so the pulse always counts

Standard is close to a range in a race. You set the rounds from 5 to 20, five per series, which is one to four series. The penalty time is 0 to 30 seconds for each miss. After the last series the training ends with a results table showing the time and the misses in each series

The counter on screen

While you shoot, the game keeps count. The series shows how many of five you hit and how many seconds it took. The clock starts with the series, not with the first shot, so aiming counts as well, and the pause stops it. The whole session adds up separately: hits, accuracy in per cent, the number of series, your best series and the average series time

With broadcast mode on, only bots shoot and you watch from the side: the camera moves from one athlete to another, and the counter follows whoever it is showing. It is a way to see the rhythm the bots shoot at

To leave, open the pause with Esc or Menu on a gamepad and choose Main Menu. The game takes you back to the setup screen with the same track, weather and settings, ready for the next session

Skiing training

This is an ordinary quick race without shooting. You choose the format, athlete, track, weather and rivals the same way as in Quick Start. There is a mass start, a sprint, an individual (standard or short) and a relay, and the pursuit appears when there is a previous race to build its start list from. Laps and distance are the same as in a real race of that format

There is no rifle on your back, you ski straight through the range, there are no penalty loops. The rivals do not shoot either, so the whole race comes down to skiing. The splits show the time after each lap, and the stats after the finish cover skiing only

After a sprint in skiing training you can go straight into the pursuit, and it runs without shooting as well

A race like this is good for learning a new track before a real start, finding where to hold the boost and where to hit the superboost, and skiing in a mass start pack. More on skiing and the boost in Skiing: stats, boost and superboost, more on the tracks in Tracks and weather

Training and Tutorial

If you are just starting, open Tutorial in the main menu first: its lessons take you step by step. Training is an open ground without hints where you set everything up yourself

Training in the career is something else: there it improves your athlete. In the Training section of the main menu the stats do not change
